Airport Impacts?
As Supervisor of the Town of Rye my constituents in Rye Brook and Port Chester are impacted by all airport operations and the concomitant environmental impacts: noise, water quality, air quality, traffic etc.
Degree of Support for County Resolution 245-2003 Opposing Airport Expansion (1-5)?
5 - I completely (5) agree with Resolution 245-2003. This is perhaps the most important Resolution regarding the Airport ever passed by the Board of Legislators.
Most Important Airport Issues?
All of the issues are important, but the single most important is water pollution, which is a serious safety issue going beyond the boundaries of the Town of Rye. Also important, but not mentioned above, is maintaining the Terminal Use Agreement.
Further Consideration of Privatization?
NO! The Airport is a county asset that must remain under control of the County and managed for the benefit of the residents, not a private money making operation.
Track Record / Experience with Airport Issues?
I have been active on airport issues going back to about 1990, working with Marty Rogowsky, and throughout the 1990’s as a Trustee in Rye Brook. I was also consultant for BOL Chairman Mike Kaplowitz from 2014-2018 and was his liaison for airport issues. As such I attended many airport related meetings and forums, especially Airport Advisory Board meetings.
What Would You Do in Your Position?
In my capacity as Supervisor I maintain contact with other elected officials (Supervisors and Mayors in the affected communities, as well as our current County Legislator, Nancy Barr, County Executive George Latimer and our federal representatives, especially Congresswoman Nita Lowey) and discuss airport issues as appropriate to protect our current status and address the important environmental issues affecting our communities.
What Else that is Relevant to the Airport?
I am fully in support of revising the Master Plan with input from the public as required by law and regulation.
Airport Impacts?
I live in Rye Brook, as such, I realize that many of my neighbors (and schools) in the Town of Rye are directly in flight paths, we are all affected by ground water contamination and pollution to our reservoirs; air pollution is a concern, as is increased traffic into the airport which would manifold increase all these issues.

Most Important Airport Issues?
I am most concerned with environmental pollution. I live directly on the brook, and have for many years, witnessed what happens to the water when the airport allows tarmac de-icer to flow down these small fragile waterways into our larger bodies of water in the region; and of course, given the escalation of the greenhouse effect and global warming, I think we need to be mindful about and careful in regards to our local carbon footprint.
Further Consideration of Privatization?
No privitization, no expansion, no upgrades allowing larger or greater number of aircrafts. (I grew up in Ronkonkoma/Bohemia, and have seen the effect of the massive expansion of MacArthur on the surrounding areas. I have no desire for the same in Westchester.) The County should focus concern on environmental standards, particularly in respect to protection of the reservoir and the Blind Brook watershed.
Track Record / Experience with Airport Issues?
I am a member of the Rye Town Democrats, and as such, am lucky to receive monthly updates from Peter Schlactus and Nancy Barr on Airport Advisory Board issues; I appreciate the intelligence they offer and completely support their views and advocacy.
What Would You Do in Your Position?
In the Town of Rye Council meetings that I've attended as a private citizen in the past year, I've yet to experience debate or discussion about airport related issues; as noted above, the information I receive is during our regular Rye Town Democrats meeting. I am intensely aware of dangers to our local and global environment, and I intend to use my influence however possible to rally on behalf of our community to conserve and protect -- and being keenly aware of HPN related issues is of such key importance in communicating and advocating positively to my neighbors and constituents.
What Else that is Relevant to the Airport?
I live next to the Brook, and I've seen first-hand the potentially devastating impact that airport waste can have on our natural resources and the potential health of our community. I am very interested in regular meetings and updates from members of CTPWAE so I can continue to advocate and support your efforts on the local level.
