Why This Coalition?

Westchester County owns and oversees operation of the county airport, the third busiest in New York State,
which lies adjacent to the Kensico Reservoir, the source of drinking water for 9 million people in Westchester and New York City.
For this reason alone, the airport could never be built at its location today.  Still, coalition members seek to be good neighbors
while insisting that the airport and its users do the same, as promised in the County's Airport Environmental Policy Statement.

Our coalition brings together community and environmental organizations, families, individuals, and businesses
who all make Westchester County and the surrounding area their home and care about its long-term health and well-being.
Together, we watchdog the airport and insist our elected officials uphold the County's longstanding policy against airport expansion.

There’s just one thing missing:  You.  Will you add your name to our growing list of supporters?
Powerful interests back airport expansion and we can only prevail with your help.  Will you lend a hand?
Contribute funding for our activities?  Or are you looking for assistance yourself?  We invite you to become part of our community!

Our Vision Statement

This brief white paper sums up who we are and what we are trying to accomplish.
It lays out our  vision for how the County should oversee Westchester County Airport, including the policy goals that guide our engagement on the specific issues that arise all too frequently.

Our Goals

  • Relief for residents from recent de facto expansion
  • A clear No-Expansion airport policy and corresponding goals / strategies / commitments
  • Scrutiny of plans, policies and operations for their potential impact on flights, capacity, and the environment.  The guiding principle for these evaluations should be an 'abundance of caution'.
  • Additional staffing and specialized legal counsel for better oversight (all funded out of the airport)
  • Systematic stakeholder involvement beginning at early stages of planning and policy-making
  • Maximum local control at the county level, even if it means bucking the FAA
